Introduction

The goal of this course is to provide students with the skills necessary to build dynamic data-driven Web sites for small and medium-sized businesses on the Internet or workgroups in a corporate intranet site.

Prerequisites

  • Familiarity with the use of Microsoft Windows® applications and Internet browser.
  • Some experience creating simple Web pages using Microsoft FrontPage® 2000.
  • Some knowledge of database design and creation in Microsoft Access 2000.

Course Outline

Module 1: Displaying Data from a Database

The following topics are covered in this module:

  • Introducing Data-Driven Web Sites
  • Demonstration: Tour of the Sample Web Site
  • Retrieving Data from a Database
  • Demonstration: Creating a Detail Results Page

At the end of this module, you will be able to retrieve data from a database by using the Database Results Wizard. This includes:

  • Retrieve records from a database.
  • Create a detail results page.
  • Specify the data to be displayed.

Module 2: Updating Data in a Database

The following topics are covered in this module:

  • Creating a Form
  • Saving Form Results
  • Modifying Data in a Database

At the end of this module, you will be able to update data in a database. This includes:

  • Creating a form.
  • Saving form results.
  • Updating the data in a database.

Module 3: Building Sample Sites

This module does not have topics. It only includes lab exercises that help you to practice the skills that you have learned in the course.

At the end of this module, you will be able to design and build a Web site that implements the concepts you have learned in this course.
