Preinstalling Microsoft Windows XP for OEMs

Introduction
The goal of this course is to provide Microsoft partner OEMs and system builders with the skills and knowledge required to successfully leverage the OEM Preinstallation Kit (OPK) to preinstall the Microsoft Windows® XP operating system on new computers.

Audience
This one-day course is designed for computer professionals within OEM accounts who are tasked with installing and configuring the Microsoft Windows XP Professional and Home Edition operating systems.

At Course Completion
At the end of the course, students will be able to:
Preinstall Windows XP Home Edition, Windows XP Professional, and applications by using the OPK.
Customize Windows Welcome for Windows XP, configure computer settings, and run the System Preparation (Sysprep) tool to prepare a computer for imaging or shipment.
Use PC Health and Step-by-Step Interactive tools to provide end-user support.
Use troubleshooting techniques to identify and resolve common preinstallation issues.

Prerequisites
Before attending this course, students must have:
General knowledge of preinstalling and configuring Microsoft Windows ME, Windows 98, or Windows 2000.
General knowledge of preinstalling operating systems by using the Microsoft OEM Preinstallation Kit (OPK).
General knowledge of Windows Welcome customizations and how to use Sysprep for imaging.
General knowledge of networking concepts, including network operating systems, client/server relationships, and local area networks (LANs).

Microsoft Certified Professional Exams
There is no MCP exam associated with this course.

Running the System Preparation Tool
At the end of this module, you will be able to customize Windows Welcome for Windows XP, which includes configuring various computer settings and running the System Preparation tools to prepare a computer for imaging or shipment.

Module 3: Providing End-User Support
The following topics are covered in this module:
Introduction to PC Health
Introduction to Step-by-Step Interactive
At the end of this module, you will be able to identify tools in Windows XP that assist OEMs in providing support to end users.

Module 4: Troubleshooting and Supporting Windows XP

Examining the Support Process
Examining Windows Product Activation
At the end of this module, you will be able to troubleshoot Windows XP preinstallation, resolve common issues, identify the support process, and obtain assistance, if necessary. You will also be able to support the Windows XP activation process for end users.
