Chapter 1: Setup
This discusses the required setup in the Project module to run advanced projects. It also covers the concept of accruable line properties for time and materials
projects. Cost templates and estimate projects are also discussed. They are both important in running advanced fixed price projects. This section describes each
of these concepts and provides the procedures required to correctly set them up.
Chapter 2: Advanced Setup Options
Here we describe the setup options that apply to Advanced projects. The options are not required to run simple projects, but can add more depth and functionality.
The main focus is on the project journal validation.
Chapter 3: Advanced Project Control
Here we describe the handling of advanced internal, fixed price and time and material projects. The main focus is how to deal with work in process (WIP) and
revenue accruals on these projects. WIP can be used in all project types. Accruing revenue requires invoicing a customer for the project. Therefore, it can
only be used for time and material and fixed price projects.
Chapter 4: Advanced Internal Projects
Here we discuss both a generic internal project that is adjusted to include work in process (WIP) and the use of Investment projects, which use the estimate project to track WIP and to capitalize costs. We also describe the accounting principles involved with running these advanced internal projects in the Microsoft Dynamics® AX Project module.
Chapter 5: Advanced Time and Material Projects
Here we describe the accounting principles involved with running advanced time and material projects in the Microsoft Dynamics AX Project module.
Chapter 6: Fixed Price Project with Completed Percentage
Here we describe the accounting principles involved with running advanced fixed-price projects with the completed percentage method of revenue
recognition
Chapter 7: Fixed Price Project with Completed Contract
Here we discuss the accounting principles involved with running the advanced fixed-price project with the completed contract method. Unlike the completed
percentage method where revenue is accrued in profit and loss accounts throughout the project, the completed contract method does not recognize
revenue until the end of the project.
Chapter 8: Integration With Microsoft Office Project Server 2007
Here we discuss the integration of the Project Accounting module of Microsoft Dynamics AX into Microsoft Office Project Server 2007 and Microsoft® Project
Pro. The integration enables project managers to use the project management and planning functionality in Project Server with the accounting and reporting
features in Microsoft Dynamics AX.
